Robinho interested in Barca switch

Tue, 27 Oct 10:06:03 2009

Robinho believes his ambition to be the best player in the world would be better served playing for Barcelona than Manchester City, although he insists he is not trying to force a move away from the Barclays Premier League side.

Robinho, who only joined City just over a year ago for a British record £32.5million from Real Madrid, has been closely linked with a move back to Spain over the last few months with Barca confirmed admirers.

The Brazil international told radio station Radio Bandeirantes: "I'm very happy about the interest that Barcelona have in me, playing in the Nou Camp it is much easier to be the best player in the world than at City."

However, Robinho, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, insists he is not trying to manufacture a move away from City or that he has a problem with manager Mark Hughes.

"I'm not forcing a hypothetical exit from England and neither do I have problems with my coach," he added.

  1. He owes City, when he turned down Chelsea we all knew it was about the money but he has yet to actually step up and prove he was/is worth it. World class players do not need quality around them to prove they are world class, these players perform consistently whichever league they play in or players they play with. Last season he showed snippets but this year he should be performing, he's had time to adjust to the faster and more aggressive pace of the prem and has also got a bit more quality around him. If he can't play his way back in to the city team then they should cut their losses and get shot cuz if he hasn't the heart to earn his place back he just isn't worth it. He may go on to be voted world player of the year but I'd never credit it to him unless he proves himself at city first. If he chickens out and gets his move it proves he can't cut it and will never be world class in my eyes.

  3. It takes more than talent to be the best player in the world . It takes discipline, dedication and hard work . If Robinho signs for Barça he will be a good addition but a complementary player non the less . He can definitely forget about being the best on a club with true world class talents such as Messi,Xavi,Iniesta and Ibrahimovic !!

  4. Greed? Two things are for sure, first he came to City for greed. Second, he won't be leaving for greed. He won't be getting paid more then he gets now. So how does greed come into it?

  5. LORRAIN, u said la liga is a second rate league after 'sheeps'. Why is it that ur 'sheeps' clubs are always scared of Barça that u find them fall back to their defence each time they are playing against Barça. So mr. Lorry or wateva u call urself, i think u are making judgement out of ur nonentity brain. Damn you!

  8. He is a small fish in a big pond. Why would Barcelona wants him when they have far more better players in Messi, Ibra, Henri and the rest. He did not do very well in Real Madrid and cannot confirm a starting 11 in City. small sifh should stay in small ponds.

  9. Robinho is a big fish in a small pond. He has talent but should stay at city for another year at least. That way he can prove himself, or otherwise, in the world cup and raise his profile to a point where he would be likely to get a start at a club like Barca. Right now he would be lucky to get a go. Besides, he owes it to city and Mark Hughes to provide some consistently good performances.

  10. City would be foolish to sell Robinho, and I doubt they would willingly. He is the best player they have upfront ,that has enough talent and experience to solely unlock a defense (next would be Ireland). One can look at how Madrid was without him. Add the fact that he is a starter on a Brazilian squad that just cruised through WQ and his talent is undeniable.

The problem with Robinho is that he has failed to grow up, and remains ever so childish. He is the kinda player that needs to be 'cuddled' and guaranteed a starting spot to bring out the best in him. Bench him and he will become unsettled.

For all the recent form that Bellamy has shown, at 30 and with his disciplinary record, one can only try to enjoy it for as long as it would last. It would be a serious lapse in judgment to think that Robinho can be sold cos they have bellamy. City need players like him, to win the kinda silverware they desire

  11. I never like his kind of play anyway, what has he achieved for City? Nothing so far! He plays selfishly and spoils most of their chances....sell him and cash some good money on him....he will be benched in Barca after all.

  12. If this comment from him is true, I wonder what Robinho is getting at..he has not even achieved anything tangible @ Man. City despite d huge sum spent to sign him yet he is already singing "barca"...i think its not fair

  13. When Robinho joined City, it was generally accepted that he came for the money. Although very talented, he very fragile, and the Premier League is very physical. I thought it was an interesting signing when it happened but I had my doubts as to it's longevity. However, as others have said, if he went to Barcelona and played alongside Messi, it would be easy to see who was the better player. Messi, every day.

  19. If Barca signs him they will fail.
Not because he is bad player.
He is distraction to the whole team.
He dosent have heart. Money is more important to him.
    No Deal.... Barca
