Neil Kilkenny put Oldham on the path to a 2-1 FA Cup first-round replay victory at Doncaster with a splendid goal on the stroke of half-time.The Latics were trailing when Kilkenny, on-loan from Birmingham, fired home a terrific 25-yard effort out of the blue to shock the hosts.
Doncaster had looked to be in charge with striker Mark McCammon having fired them in front with a close-range volley after 26 minutes following Lewis Guy's splendid cross from the right. But Oldham gradually came into the game before the interval and Kilkenny's equaliser transformed the game.
Oldham came out in a determined mood in the second half and snatched the lead after 49 minutes through Gary McDonald. Neal Eardley delivered an excellent cross from the right and when Doncaster defender James O'Connor slipped as he tried to clear McDonald pounced to hammer the ball home from the penalty spot.
Rovers' efforts to fight back were feeble but they were given some hope when Oldham were reduced to 10 men after 84 minutes after defender Neal Trotman was sent off for a second bookable offence.
The visitors held firm with keeper Mark Crossley saving well from Brian Stock in injury time to earn a second round home tie against Crewe.
