Championship - Strachan will complete St Ledger deal

Middlesbrough will complete a £4.5 million permanent deal for on-loan defender Sean St Ledger in January despite changing their manager.

The agreement to make the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international's loan move from Preston to the Riverside Stadium permanent was put in place under former boss Gareth Southgate but just seven games into his spell on Teesside, Southgate departed to be replaced by Gordon Strachan.

Strachan said: "He will be staying here. As far as I am concerned, it's done. That's what I have been told, anyway."

St Ledger has become a fixture in the Boro team, starting the last 10 games after making his debut as a substitute in the 3-1 Championship victory at Sheffield Wednesday on September 15.

Let's just say that you should relax­ a bit more and enjoy life in the Championship where you­ belong. Maybe Hull will get relegated and you will­ finally have a proper derby. At least Sunderland and­ Newcastle fans have something in agreement - we both­ agree Boro are a nothing club and there is only one­ true derby in the North East.
