Old Firm hold few fears - Craig

Thu 27 Dec, 05:15 PM

Hibernian interim manager Tommy Craig does not believe the two Old Firm clubs are as feared as they once were in Scotland. The Leith side host Rangers on Saturday at Easter Road looking to build on their memorable victory at Ibrox in October.

Experienced coach Craig also believes the fact that neither Celtic or Rangers have managed to establish clear ground between themselves and the rest is proof the top flight is at its most competitive for years.

Hibs, who have taken four points off Celtic in two games this season, play Rangers looking to halt their own barren run of form which has seen them register just one win since they emerged victorious in Govan.

Despite going through a poor spell, Craig, whose side were beaten by Kilmarnock on Boxing Day, insists a clash with Rangers does not worry them.

He said: "I'm sure Rangers visiting will galvanise the boys, it's the ideal game to come back to after such a disappointing result against Kilmarnock.

"We always respect how strong the Old Firm are and how big a game it is when you play against them.

"However, recently when you see at team going to Ibrox and winning, they don't look as impregnable as they once used to.

"They have huge demands when it comes to the European scene, more than the rest of us, and that in itself makes it more difficult.

"I think, in our case, we have given youth its opportunity over the last couple of years and from the outset of that Hibs were taking one or two beatings.

"If you stick with it, all of a sudden you can start to compete with the Old Firm."
