The Tunisia international, who turns 31 in January, was released by City in the summer after only one season following the emergence of local duo Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha and has been given permission to train with l'OM by Saudi club Al Hilal, for whom he signed in November after a move to Lazio fell through.

He is currently training with the South Coast club - who had expressed an interest in him last summer - along with a group of youngsters also vying for the right back slot in the senior team.

Former PSG striker Fabrice Fiorese, meanwhile, is determined to win his place back despite Marseille telling him he has no future at the club.

"I am ready to return to Marseille to win my starting place back," he declared despite having not featured since 2005.

"The club can count on me. I still have a part to play here."

Fiorese spent part of least season on loan at Lorient and the campaign before at Al Rayyan in Qatar and has been linked with a move to Amiens in Ligue 2 this winter.
