There was a lot to comment on this Boxing Day, with Chelsea and Aston Villa bosses Avram Grant and Martin O'Neill particularly vocal after their 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea 4-4 Aston Villa
Avram Grant: "For me what's important is that [Ricardo] Carvalho did not intend to hurt [Gabriel Agbonlahor] - I didn't see any intention. It was the decision of the referee and I respect it. I will look at the incident again."
Martin O'Neill: "Zat Knight's sending off was a major moment I might appeal and we have until noon tomorrow to do so. It wasn't a penalty. The Chelsea player went over and there was no contact. That's my view - it wasn't a penalty."
Ricardo Carvalho: "It was never my intention to hurt Gabriel with the tackle. I was going for the ball and I don't want people to think that I tried to hurt another player. I didn't see him after the game to apologise but I asked for a message to be passed on to him."
Sunderland 0-4 Manchester United
Roy Keane: "We are where we are. The best team will win the league and the three worst teams will go down, and I believe we are not one of the three worst teams in the Premier League. But it would be nice to back that up with some positive results and some wins."
Sir Alex Ferguson: "It was an excellent performance, I thought the passing and movement was excellent. The first goal put us in the driving seat because we knew Sunderland were going through a bit of a sticky patch."
Portsmouth 0-0 Arsenal
Arsene Wenger: "They defended well and were organised not to concede. They made it difficult with a brilliant defensive performance and we were not at our best in the final 30 yards."
Harry Redknapp: "I remember a couple of years ago playing Rotherham and Grimsby here, so it was a terrific result for us. We worked our socks off, both sides played the same system with one up front and to keep a clean sheet against Arsenal is a fantastic performance. It's hard to attack when you haven't got the ball and Arsenal are the toughest team in country to get the ball off."
Tottenham 5-1 Fulham
Juande Ramos: "I don't know how much weight Tom [Huddlestone] has lost but we have it on record. [Christmas] Turkey is a very healthy food and is one of the things that is recommended. It's what goes with it that is different - potatoes and alcohol!"
Ray Lewington: "If they play like that they will get relegated but I hope they won't. Everything that could go wrong went wrong today."
West Ham 1-1 Reading
Alan Curbishley: "The fans are as frustrated as me. We are all frustrated We got ourselves in good positions to have got the second goal. Reading kept going and when you see their goal again it is a shocking piece of defending from us."
Steve Coppell: "I, like everybody else, wants to see the two-footed jump tackle removed from the game. I know Bryn [Gunnarsson] didn't mean anything by it but by the strict letter of the law it was a two-footed jump tackle and he had to go We have a training ground routine where we play eight against any number and if you are communicating well enough you can withstand it most of the time."
Derby 1-2 Liverpool
Paul Jewell: "We certainly did that eventually. For that incident with [Andriy] Voronin, Jay [McEveley] didn't touch him. And I told people that. If he had caught him, the lad would not have got up again. But I am not that bothered about the incident, it was trivial. I am more concerned with finding the positives in the game for us."
Rafa Benitez: "Paul Jewell had a different view of the incident than me, that is football. We disagreed. But Paul didn't tackle me, so I was okay out there!"
Everton 2-0 Bolton
David Moyes: "[Phil Neville] was up all night with sickness and it was only at 11am he was cleared to play. That is why we took him off. He wasn't well at all. You have to give him credit. He played well in the circumstances."
Gary Megson: "We cannot say we have lost because of two contentious refereeing decisions. We have played poorly. Everton are an exceptional side. They pushed us back and we were camped in our half."
Birmingham 3-0 Middlesbrough
Alex McLeish: "At Bolton our performance was insipid but against Middlesbrough we got into their faces and it paid off."
Gareth Southgate: "We didn't deserve anything from the game. I thought we were very, very poor in the first half and didn't get out of the traps."
Wigan 1-0 Newcastle
Steve Bruce: "The players look as if they've the stomach for the fight, and if they keep playing like that, then I hope that we can stay out of the bottom three."
Sam Allardyce: "You expect a reaction, and I don't blame the fans. If I was them I would be singing what they sang because we're not good enough. I'm a top man in my field and I know it's not good enough, so it doesn't take much for them to work out it's not good enough. They are not daft."
