ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AFP) - Evan Lysacek edged Johnny Weir by the narrowest of margins Sunday to win the men's title at the 2008 US Figure Skating Championships.
Both skaters finished with total scores of 244.77 points, but Lysacek skated off with the gold thanks to his victory in the free skate, which he won with 162.72 points while Weir notched 161.37.
Lysacek claimed his second straight US men's crown, while 2007 world junior champion Stephen Carriere was third.
Weir, 23, had led Lysacek by 1.35 points after the short programme.
Lysacek, 22, was far from flawless, double-footing the landing on a quadruple jump and wobbling on the landing of two triple axels.
Weir, however, was unable to capitalize and settled for second.
The event concluded competition at the US championships.
