Premier League - Davies joins Birmingham

Fri, 28 Jan 15:53:00 2011

Defender Curtis Davies has completed his move from Aston Villa to Birmingham for a fee believed to be £3.5million.

Davies joins midfielder Craig Gardner and defender Liam Ridgewell as former Villa players plying their trade across the city.

The former England Under-21 player had looked set to rejoin Leicester for a second loan spell but has instead opted for St Andrew's and another chance at Premier League football.

Alex McLeish wanted to strengthen their back four with Scott Dann out for the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile Rubin Kazan's coach has claimed that Obafemi Martins will join the Blues on loan for the remainder of the season.

Birmingham are yet to confirm the move, but Rubin coach Kurban Berdiyev claimed that the deal has been done and added that the former Newcastle star had requested the move in order to be closer to his family.

"His child was born, and he asked to let him go to England, because Obafemi wants to be closer to his family," Berdiyev told the Rubin Kazan website.

  1. So much anger in some of these postings.
So what if Curtis Davies, Liam Ridgewell and Craig Gardner have joined us? They did well by Villa and will do us proud as well. So in total they will enhance the reputation of BIRMINGHAM the second city. That's good for ALL of us.
Grow up, enjoy friendly rivalry and don't turn it into hatred.

  2. How's Heskey, Ron Taylor? STILL too good for the Small Heath Knuckle-Draggers, that's how. I think Curtis Davies is still too good for the Second Division as well. That's another promising career down the sh'itter.

What's all this b0llocks from the in-breds about Villa being jealous? Of what - Wembley? We lost there twice last year, not just once like Small Heath next month. The league? Don't think so, Pikeys - a Brum team is going down, and it ain't us! As for the FA Cup... well, well, I'd say we're the first team into the fifth round, and we've NEVER BEEN KNOCKED OUT BY COVENTRY AMATEURS. Ha ha ha he ha ha ha.
