Premier League - Reds reject Chelsea Torres bid
Fri, 28 Jan 11:26:00 2011
Liverpool have rejected a bid from Chelsea for Fernando Torres, according to reports - but several sources claim the striker has asked the Anfield club to consider letting him go.
The Stamford Bridge side made an offer, reportedly in the region of £35 million, for the Spain international but the Reds flatly refused it.
Liverpool insist they have absolutely no intention of selling one of their prize assets - but reports have emerged that the player himself wants to look into a move.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that Torres has asked Liverpool to listen to Chelsea's offer, while Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague - who correctly predicted Cristiano Ronaldo's sale to Real Madrid - has been quoted as saying Torres that has asked the Reds to keep on negotiating.
A Liverpool spokesman insisted that no deal would be done, however.
"The player is not for sale," the spokesman said. "Chelsea have made a bid for Fernando which has been turned down."
Torres has never intimated he wants to leave Anfield, despite a huge amount of speculation when he returned in August as a World Cup winner.
And after a difficult start to the season, Liverpool's worst since 1953/54, when he cut a frustrated figure on the pitch he is starting to look like his old predatory self.
Kenny Dalglish's arrival almost three weeks ago to replace Roy Hodgson lifted all the squad but Torres is one of the players who seems to have benefited the most.
Having scored just once in seven matches prior to the Scot's appointment he has hit three in his last four games - and that would have been four in four had he not had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside in Wednesday's win over Fulham.
But aside from his return to goalscoring form the 26-year-old has looked much sharper than at any other time this season.
Torres had a £50m buy-out clause inserted into his contract within the last year but it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be prepared to match that or, indeed, whether the player would even contemplate a move to Stamford Bridge.

CRAZY legs ! as already stated torres has scored 81 goals in all comps for liverpool in 4 years !chelsea and united have five or six players who match that stat or beat it ! torres left liverpool in the summer and only returned (after a dire world cup ) because benites was given 23 mill to go away ! he has ynwa tattooed on his forarm in respect of the madrid bomb victims ! absolutely nothing to do with liverpool football club , he has put in a formal transfer request ! so where is your point exactly ? look AT THE FACTS FOR ONCE, AND SEE THE TRUTH FOR WHAT IT IS ! I AM A CHELSEA FAN AND I DONT WANT HIM AT CHELSEA ! I WOULDN'T WANT SUARES EITHER ! GOOD LUCK TO YOPUR TEAM !
fernando torres has absolutely no loyalty to liverpool football club ! just like benites , they are spainish they could not careless for anyone but their families !
Crazylegs
He's handed in a transfer request, it's only a matter of time. Why do you think you've signed Saurez? Torres is going
Torres handed in a tranfer request so hes off dont u fans feel a little stupid after die for the shirt cr ap earlier today?
tony are u an other jelouse fool hou has probley never been in a football staideam .kenny and steve clarke sammy lee if they cant do agood job i donth no hou can so fu,, u mancks worst supporters around by along way so donth be so jealous of other clubs dickheads and watch how we support liverpool ynwa
@Andy(326) if you believe every rumour you hear that's your choice. As for all of you who doesn't approve with Torres being a good striker, may I have to remind you that Spain won the European Cup because of a super-class goal scored by Torres. But that doesn't count now does it? Do I have to mention that El Nino have scored more goals in 4 years than other players who played a lifetime in the Premier League? These are facts not mambo-jambo.
As for the reasons Liverpool will not sell Torres:
1. There is no good striker that can play on Nando's position ar Liverpool. He is not just a simple striker. He has to play alone, fighting with all the defenders, without support. How many clubs play with one striker? Very few because they don't have players suited for that position. Nando is suited, and that's why he's very valuable to Liverpool because of the team's style of play.
2. Maybe Torres had considered leaving in the past, but he had the same opportunity to leave last summer and he opted to stay. Now that Suarez is signing with Liverpool, Gerrard is fit and eligible to play, Meireles is in hot form, all reasons to stay.
3. If you we're Torres, you have your spot in the first eleven and you know you have back-up coming to support you since Suarez is signing today, you'd be stupid enough to go to another club, with overloaded attacking players, with no position to fit in, just for the sake of moving? I don't think so.
I think I made my point. I'm waiting for a rumour saying that Gerrard will leave too, lol.
andy take your head out of your arse because thats were it must be to say torres is @#$% were are u leaving u tit ynwa
LFC need massive investment in top players and will not be selling Torres as he and gerrard are the only top outfield players they have. They are very average at mo and the deluded fans who cling on to former glory days and expect them to challenge for trophies is stupidly deluded. LFC are just average and need Torress and massive investment in decent players to regain any chance of doing well. At the mo LFC are just a mid table bunch of flops.
321 READ BACK YOUR STATEMENT AND YOU WILL REALISE WHAT AN IDIOT YOU ACTUALLY ARE ! A TOTAL WASTE OF SPACE ! DEH DOO DOE DON'T DEH SCUM
316 crazy-legs if that is the case ! why has fernando torres asked liverpool to re-consider the chelsea offer ! you scousers state things as you would like them to be ! not how they are . shame .
as for 315 j what makes you think any chelsea fans wants torres ! he is still shyte and will never be good enough to count in the premiership , he is better off returning to spain where the game is far slower and cheating is more acceptable !we dont want him
Liverpool have to consider Torres leaving bcos the offer is too good to ignore and besides Torres needs to be playing in Champions League instead of Europa league. So liverpool should let him go to club of his dream. Wish to see him soon at the Bridge
why didnt they sell torres they just bought suarez
liverpool are a mess but danglish will fix it
let torres go somewhere he will play good footy
I can't believe my eyes for those who claim that they are Liverpool fans and want Torres out. Are you mad? Didn't you see before that Liverpool is nothing without Torres and Gerrard? And we finally got Suarez and you want Torres out? You don't deserve to wake up in the morning and say you are "reds".
i'm a red and i'm under no illusion Torres will leave liverpool. up untill five weeks ago when he couldn't hit a cows arse with a spade, i dont think he had any intention of seeking a new club till now, the arrival of kenny d which has given him more confidence and has allowed him to claw back some of his former glory, iv indeed he has asked for liverpool to persue the offer by chelsea or in time he hands in a transfer request, then i say let him go get as much as we can from him and start investing in the future team!! Y.N.W.A
Lol F*cking hell you're a complete idiot. H E W A S S O L D H E D I D N' T L E A V E.
Poor little Chumpski Begging for Liverpools striker.
We have money eh eh .........Enough to not need Chumpskis Oil revenue.
Dogbreath will have to make do.
Lets face it - Liverpool do not want to sell and Chelsea are "fishing"; This speculation of "will he won't.he" is exactly the same situation which confronted Liverpool and Torres at the beginning of the season, and he opted to stay. If you actually analyse the situation then one would assume that things are actually clearer then six months ago, the debt is cleared, the new owners stated that they would take the club forward via investment, and the potential purchase of Suarez would suggest they are true to their word.
I love how the article mentions Guillem Balague - "who correctly predicted Cristiano Ronaldo's sale to Real Madrid", don't get me wrong I like Guillem, however a blind pig could have predicted Ronaldo was off to Real Madrid, the deal was the worst kept secret in Football so I don't think mentioning that fact adds any credence or weightto his viwepoint.
Torres has obviously been frustrated with non eventuating promises, however Suarez's (and possibly other players) impending arrival would provide the assistance up front he has been craving (and lacking), and surely you would think he would be prepared to see how, or if a partnership could be formed over the final part of the season, and if he truly wanted to leave, then do so in the summer which would make far more sense both in footballing and on a personal (and family level).... lets face it, Chelsea will surely make another bid in the summer.
If Torres was to move then I would suggest it would be back to Spain and to Barcelona, as opposed to an ageing Chelsea.
@#$% of chelsea( cheaters) from Torres
torres in blue lol
torres in blue lol
Keep dreaming Chelsea:)). Torres is too valuable for Liverpool and he OFFICIALLY STATED at least 2 times this season that he's not going anywhere. I don't believe in any speculations that Nando is tired of Liverpool and want to go. He's not a man for Chelsea anyway.
love how chelsea think they have a chance of getting him, not so long ago he was sh-t now hes great. goes to prove you lot are very fickle...
