Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy have regained the pairs title they had won three times previously at the European Figure Skating Championships in Bern.

Ukraine's Savchenko and Germany's Szolkowy swept the world and European titles in 2008 and 2009 but have not won gold at a major championship since.

But the Olympic bronze medallists were just too good for reigning champions - Russia's Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov - who, despite scoring better in the free skate, settled for silver.

Vera Bazarova and Yuro Larionov completed the podium to claim their first major medal.

Great Britain's Stacey Kemp and David King dropped one place from their short program position to eighth.
