Kober takes first win since baby
Olympic silver medallist Amelie Kober delighted her home crowd to take a first FIS Parallel Giant Slalom Snowboard World Cup victory since her return from maternity leave in Germany.
Kober, who gave birth shortly after the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010, has been nothing but consistent following her comeback with a second and a third in particular this season.
And having recorded a 13th, fourth and eighth since her two podium finishes in December, Kober ensured she was back on it and topping it after a near-faultless display in Sudelfeld.
The 24-year-old was on form on home soil comfortably seeing off the charge of Austrian Marion Kreiner in the big final – ending with a 2.96-second advantage – to win gold.
But Russian Ekaterina Tudegesheva spoilt the German party somewhat beating Kober’s teammate Selina Joerg in the small final by a 1.22 margin to complete the podium with bronze.
Courtesy of her consistency Kober now sits second in the parallel giant slalom World Cup rankings just behind Switzerland’s Patrizia Kummer – who placed 13th in Germany.
Meanwhile in the men’s event Olympic bronze medallist Siegfried Grabner also took his first win of the season to set up an impressive Austrian one-two-three.
Siegfried got the better of Lukas Mathies in the big final while in the small final Andreas Prommegger kept Slovenian Jernej Demsar at bay to take bronze.
However the result had little effect on the top of the World Cup standings with Roland Fischnaller, who was sixth, still leading another Austrian Benjamin Karl, who was seventh.
