Brown pleased with Dons' recovery

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown was delighted to see his side move into the top six of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League table for the first time under his tenure after grinding out a 1-0 win in a scrappy encounter with Dunfermline.

Scott Vernon's 10th goal of the season was enough to give the Dons the three points they needed to leapfrog Dundee United and Kilmarnock and climb to sixth.

The Dons were bottom of the SPL in December but a run of only one defeat in 10 matches has propelled them up the standings.

Brown said: "I think I'm vindicated when I said we were in a false position at the bottom. There were some sceptics and others saying that we would stay there but I never at any time felt that.

"I wasn't being stupidly optimistic. I looked at our team and I know the game and I could tell we were playing far better than the results we were getting.

"We had three games in a row against the top three teams in the league and only lost by the odd goal and on each occasion we could have won the game or at least got a draw."
