Midfielder Ritchie Humphreys has signed an extension to his Hartlepool contract, having already been at the club for over six years. The 30-year-old recently made his 300th Pools appearance since joining the club from Cambridge United in 2001.

"I never wanted to go anywhere else as I've thoroughly enjoyed it here," Humphreys told Hartlepool's official website. "Getting to play football for a living is a very privileged position and I think you should relish every day of it."

Humphreys, who is regarded as one of the cleanest and most humble players in English football, has never been sent off in a 12-year career which began at Sheffield Wednesday.

In 2006 he established a new record for consecutive league appearances when he played in a sequence of 234 matches uninterrupted.

Humphreys is currently working towards his coaching qualifications and could be considering following in the footsteps of club captain Micky Barron, who has joined the Hartlepool coaching staff.
