Cameroon goalkeeper Carlos Kameni has claimed Manchester United want to sign him from Espanyol.

The 24-year-old helped the Indomitable Lions to the African Cup of Nations final, and is rated as one of the continent's top keepers.

Kameni has been a regular with his Barcelona-based club for four seasons and his current contract expires at the end of next season.

"Manchester United have been looking at me for a while," he said.

"I'm happy in Barcelona for the moment but it's natural that a player wants to progress and the Premier League is a dream for any player."

Alex Ferguson's brother and chief scout Martin saw Kameni in action as Espanyol lost 4-2 at home to Sevilla the weekend before last.

It is not clear where Kameni would fit into the Old Trafford set-up. First-choice Edwin van der Sar has enjoyed a fine season despite his advancing years, while United also have two promising young keepers in Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak.
