Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni, Spurs assistant manager Gustavo Poyet has admitted.

Cameroon international Kameni - who has been linked with Manchester United by the player himself - has been tipped as a replacement for out-of-favour shot-stopper Paul Robinson, while defender and team-mate Daniel Jarque was a January transfer target for Spurs and, despite the signing of Jonathan Woodgate, is still a long-term project for the North London club.

"Kameni and Jarque are very exciting players, and any exciting player is welcome at a club like Tottenham," Poyet told Catalan radio station RAC1.

"Both are part of a long list that the sporting director [Damien Comolli] is looking at and that the club is following with a view to reinforcing our team."

Kameni had claimed that United were tracking him and stated his ambition to play in England.

The 24-year-old former Le Havre man has been first choice at Espanyol since moving there in 2004 following a work permit rejection for a proposed transfer to Wolves. Jarque, meanwhile, has been at Espanyol for his entire professional career and any bid for the 25-year-old would cast doubts over the future of Michael Dawson.

But the former Spurs and Chelsea player was keen to point out that nothing has been confirmed.

"We haven't taken any decision regarding making a move," Poyet added.

"Soon we'll approach the subject and make a decision."

New boss Juande Ramos has taken little time to shake-up Spurs who, after moving forwards under former boss Martin Jol, were stagnating amidst accusations of fitness and weight problems. Within four months they have climbed from relegation candidates to mid-table in the Premier League, won the Carling Cup and qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.
