Francesco Ginanni of Diquigiovanni-Androni won the inaugural GP Insubria in Switzerland.

The 23-year-old beat Enrico Rossi and Samuele Dumourin to the line after the 173km race in the hills of the Canton Ticino area.

Ronny Scholz (Milram), David Loosli (Lampre) and Fredrik Kesssiakoff (Fuji Servetto) built up an eight minute lead as the race traversed the Montello and Ronchi climbs.

But they were caught with just five kilometres remaining and after Davide Rebellin foiled a lone escape by David de La Fuente (Fuji Servetto), the stage was set for a sprint victory and Ginanni's success.
