Sunday round-up: Basso wins Lugano
Ivan Basso won the GP Lugano in Switzerland ahead of young Colombian climber Fabio Duarte.
GEOX-TMC's Duarte attacked with 7km remaining and only Giro d'Italia champion Basso was able to keep up before the Liquigas-Cannondale rider took the sprint victory.
GEOX did celebrate their first victory of the season as Matteo Pelucchi won the Clasica de Almeria.
The young Italian sprinter beat Spain's José Joaquín Rojas (Movistar) and Hollannd's Pim Lightart (Vacansoleil) over the finish line after a spectacular sprint that required a photo finish.
Pavel Brutt of Katusha won the Classica Sarda from Cagliari to Sassari.
In pouring rain, the 29-year-old Russian rider defeated Emanuele Sella (Androni Giocattoli) and in-form Peter Sagan (Liquigas Cannondale).
Sella attacked with 9km remaining but Brutt overtook the Italian in the final sprint.
Arthur Vichot won the Boucles du Sud Ardèche ahead of Thierry Hupond (Skil-Shimano) and Cyril Gautier (Europcar).
The 22-year-old rider from FDJ won the sprint out of a breakaway group of 12 riders.
