Calderwood focused on Dons job

Fri 28 Mar, 09:00 AM

Jimmy Calderwood insists his Aberdeen players must concentrate on their own game when they travel to face Inverness in the SPL on Saturday. The Dons know they must emerge victorious to have any chance of reaching the top half of the table.

Most teams have only two games left before the split and Aberdeen currently trail Falkirk by three points, while Hearts sit level with the Pittodrie club.

When Aberdeen take to the field in the Highland capital, Falkirk will be squaring off against Kilmarnock, while Hearts face Dundee United.

Calderwood is interested to see how Falkirk cope with the challenge of trying to finish above Aberdeen and Hearts, but insists his team must focus on their own battle in Inverness before worrying about other results.

He said: "We have just got to try and win our game, which is going to be difficult enough.

"With Falkirk now, it is a different pressure for them and they are not used to it.

"We have got it every day of the week and definitely every game.

"Obviously Hearts have got a difficult match against Dundee United, but all we can do is try to win the game and we will see what happens then."

Inverness player-manager Craig Brewster is hopeful Marius Niculae will carry on where he left off for Romania during the week when Aberdeen came calling.

Niculae did his hopes of making the Romania squad for Euro 2008 the power of good after coming off the bench to score in an impressive 3-0 victory over Russia.

Brewster was pleased to hear of Niculae's success and would be even happier if the former Sporting Lisbon player could end the week on a high against Aberdeen.

He said: "Marius scored a goal and set up another one, so we are all delighted for him.

"It will be good if he scores at the weekend as well."

Niculae has scored nine goals for Inverness this season, but those strikes have been spread across only five games.

Inverness have been far from prolific in front of goal of late, scoring just three times during a six-game losing run.

Therefore Brewster admits he is looking for one of his strikers such as Niculae to start getting goals on a more consistent basis.

He said: "It would certainly be nice and we always say every team needs a goalscorer.

"But we have found scoring goals hard to do of late, so we will see if that changes."
