Colchester goalkeeper Aidan Davison has urged protege Dean Gerken not to be swayed by the bright lights of the Premier League just yet.Gerken, 22, has this week been linked with a summer switch to West Ham and is expected to attract more interest with the Us set to drop out of the Championship.

But veteran Davison, who is currently recovering from shoulder surgery, found the grass was not always greener when he was in the top flight with Bradford and Bolton and wants Gerken to bide his time.

"Dean can play in the Premier League - but he needs to play football consistently," he told the Colchester Gazette.

"I had the situation in my career where the bigger club you are at you find better quality players in your position.

"Dean can learn his trade and then play in the Premier League week in, week out when the time is right."
