Deadly Donny chop down Forest

Fri 28 Mar, 11:00 PM

Gareth Roberts' free-kick 15 minutes from time earned Doncaster a deserved 1-0 victory over promotion-rivals Nottingham Forest.Doncaster dominated from start to finish and should have converted two or three more chances, but the visitors goal led a charmed life at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Rovers set the pattern when Jason Price had a powerful header tipped over the bar by Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith in the 14th minute.

Lively striker Paul Heffernan fired over in the 26th minute and Smith came to the rescue again with another fingertip save from Brian Stock following a brilliant breakaway attack in the 34th minute.

The one-way traffic continued after the interval and Doncaster were finally rewarded when Roberts drilled a low 20-yard free-kick through the defensive wall and in off the inside of the post, 15 minutes from time.

Substitute Lewis McGugan had earlier missed a great chance for Forest from close range, but it was a rare opportunity for the visitors who had Smith to thank for late saves from Stock and Heffernan.
