Defensive crisis for Cobblers

Fri 28 Mar, 03:30 PM

Northampton manager Stuart Gray is down to his last two central defenders for the trip to Whaddon Road to take on Cheltenham oin Saturday.Gray - who has refused to concede defeat in his side's play-off challenge - lost former Hungary defender Gabor Gyepes to a hamstring injury in the 2-0 defeat at Carlisle on Monday.

Gyepes has been ruled out for an initial two weeks and joins captain Chris Doig, Brett Johnson (both hamstring) and Mark Hughes (thigh) on the sidelines.

Doig and Johnson are both back in training and could be pressed into a place on the bench but are not match-fit and will play in the reserves next week.

That will see Liam Dolman partner on-loan Wolves man Mark Little at the heart of the back four while midfielder Ryan Gilligan begins a two-match suspension.

Gilligan was booked for the 10th time this season in the fractious Good Friday defeat to Nottingham Forest, so Giles Coke will continue.
