Eastwood hopes to end Wolves exile

Freddy Eastwood hopes his two-goal performance in Wales' 2-0 win in Luxembourg on Wednesday will not go unnoticed back at Wolves.Striker Eastwood has not started a first-team game since Boxing Day as Molineux boss Mick McCarthy has continued with other options.

It has been a frustrating time for the £1million summer buy from Southend, but he has vowed to keep fighting to prove his worth.

Eastwood said: "I was delighted with the tally and every goal I score, whether for club or country, is important to me.

"Every time you score at international level obviously your (club) manager is going to notice it and I have been working hard at home to get back into the side and hopefully now I am not too far away.

"It was my first start for a while and it is good to be involved from the first minutes, but I will have to see if that continues.

"The (Wolves) manager knows what I can and can't do and obviously the decision is his. The situation is not ideal because obviously I want to play for my club, but at the moment the manager there is doing it his way and we are getting the right results.

"I have to wait for my chance. We have a great opportunity now to reach the play-offs and hopefully the run will carry on and I can do my bit."

He certainly did his bit for Wales, and his tally is now four in seven internationals.

Of the victory in Luxembourg, Eastwood said: "I was delighted with the goals and the chance for another start in what was a good team performance away from home.

"We got the win and it was another useful exercise. It was tight to start with but once we got the first goal I thought we looked comfortable and they never seemed likely to score.

"After the goal it was simply a question of how many we were going to get.

"But it was difficult because they were playing so deep and that made it hard to break them down.

"Once I had a second touch there was only one thing on my mind, which was to have a shot and luckily it went in. The second came from a good run by Simon Davies, I called for him to pull it back and I was able to put it away."

He added: "With the injuries we have got the manager needs to bring in other players and they contributed to a good team performance.

"I feel I am a regular now because I am starting games, and with every one I am gaining more experience and hopefully when the big games come along I will be involved in them as well.

"The manager John Toshack just tells us to go out to enjoy it and play your own game and so far we seem to be doing the job.

"We have done well on the road and when the World Cup comes around we want to try and give it a really good go."
