Johnson: It's points that win prizes

Fri 28 Mar, 06:15 PM

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson insists his side's lack of goals does not worry him as long as they continue to hold on to a top-two spot. The Robins have scored just 47 goals in the Championship this term - five goals less than bottom-club Colchester - with strikers Steve Brooker, Darren Byfield and Lee Trundle all forced onto the sidelines through injury at various points.

"It would have been lovely to have scored 100 goals and not let any in," Johnson told the club's official website. "Let's not forget we are in the Championship and it's important if you don't score many goals that you don't let any in.

"I think we'd much prefer being second in the table with 40-odd goals than bottom of the division.

"A lot of the strikers we've had haven't hit form for long enough to be playing regularly anyway - you're not really going to get to the 20-goal mark without playing regularly.

"All we can do is make sure that come the end of the season our points tally is the best, or at least second best, after 46 games. At the moment, it is."
