Moratti urges Inter caution

Fri 28 Mar, 01:30 PM

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti is taking nothing for granted in the race for the Scudetto, with his team heading to Lazio on Saturday.Inter are seeking a third straight title in Serie A but have not been able to put clear daylight between themselves and the Giallorossi.

Last weekend Roberto Mancini's men were beaten 2-1 by Juventus and Moratti admits no one at the club is feeling overconfident.

He said: "Until there is a considerable advantage over Roma, I prefer to remain cautious.

"We have lost two games this season in Serie A for different reasons, the first because we had a numerical inferiority and the other for other reasons."

There has been turmoil at Inter ever since their Champions League exit to Liverpool, in the aftermath of which Mancini announced he would leave the San Siro at the end of the season.

And although he later retracted his comments, Moratti has had to repeatedly deny he is looking for a new coach.

To add further spice to Saturday's clash, Mancini is Lazio's former coach and many Biancoceleste fans are still upset by his move to Inter.

Moratti added: "I remain confident and I am convinced that the team will bounce back. But every game worries me and especially the clash at Lazio."

Mancini himself admits his team have struggled of late to show the same form that saw them go unbeaten in Serie A until defeat to Napoli in March, collecting just one point from their last two league games.

He said: "We can do a lot more than what we did in the game against Juventus. But lets not forget we still hold a four-point advantage and we can manage this.

"If we recover some players, there is no reason why we cannot win the eight games that remain until the end of the campaign."

Inter will be missing midfield duo Patrick Vieira and Luis Figo though injury, while Olivier Dacourt, Walter Samuel and Ivan Cordoba are also out injury.

Pele though returns from suspension and, with Julio Cruz serving a one-match ban this weekend, Hernan Crespo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic should start in attack.

Ibrahimovic has bagged 15 league goals for the Nerazzurri this term, but has not found the net in his last three matches.

Lazio will be eager to bounce back from their narrow defeat at Fiorentina last weekend that brought to an end a five-game unbeaten run.

The result left the Biancoceleste in 10th place in the table, 10 points adrift of the European qualifying places.

Despite Lazio's lack of continuity in terms of results this campaign, Delio Rossi's side have proved a tough opponent for the top teams.

They held AC Milan to a 1-1 draw earlier this month before beating Roma 3-2 in a thrilling Eternal City derby. Indeed they have won their last five outings at the Stadio Olimpico.

The hosts will be without suspended midfielder Massimo Mutarelli, but can call upon midfielder Cristian Ledesma and striker Tommaso Rocchi, who have shaken off their respective muscle.

Rocchi is Lazio's joint-top scorer alongside Goran Pandev, both of whom have 12 goals this season.
