Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has been ruled out for six weeks with a knee ligament injury.

The 24-year-old picked up the knock during Scotland's friendly game with Croatia at Hampden Park on Wednesday.

United boss Alex Ferguson said: "It is a bad blow for us as Darren will be out for six weeks."

Fletcher has been used sparingly this season, making just 14 league appearances this, 10 of which were off the bench.

But he been favoured by Ferguson in important games of late, and he started against Arsenal in the Premier League and Lyon in the away leg of the Champions League quarter-final.
