Italy's Filippo Pozzato of the Katusha team won the 2009 Prijs Vlaanderen in Belgium ahead of Belgium's Tom Boonen and Kazakhstan's Maxim Iglinskiy.
The top three riders broke away from the pack with 25km to go in the 208km race after first Stijn Devolder and then Sylvain Chavanel tried to break but were quickly overhauled.
And the riders were still level until the final kilometre, but front-runner Pozzato managed to do enough to hold off the hard-sprinting Boonen and Iglinskiy.
The result gave the 27-year-old Pozzato his first victory of the season; while Boonen will have to wait another year for a chance to notch up a record-equalling fifth victory in the race.
