Charlton have named Steve Waggott as their new chief executive following Peter Varney's decision to step down at the end of the season. The 53-year-old is currently chief executive of the Charlton Community Trust, which he joined when it was established in 2004.
"I am very excited and honoured to have been given this opportunity at such a well-regarded football club," said Waggott.
"The south-east region will undergo a massive transformation in the next decade, and this will provide the football club with a unique opportunity to further develop its supporter base and to grow the commercial infrastructure of the club.
"I am determined that the club will grasp the opportunities presented to us."
Varney announced in March he was leaving for personal reasons after more than 10 years at The Valley.
