Hayes delighted at better pitches

Mon 28 Apr, 01:15 PM

Scunthorpe matchwinner Paul Hayes has revealed Nigel Adkins' relegated side are thriving on better playing surfaces.Hayes, who fired the only goal at Watford as relegated Scunthorpe followed up their win over Cardiff the previous week with another success, denied the Iron had rediscovered their best form now the pressure is off.

Hayes said: "It's the first time we've gone back-to-back all season - it's all too late, but for any team that's a big achievement.

"We worked extremely hard throughout the team and I think we deserved the win.

"I don't think it's because the pressure is off. We like to get the ball down and pass it and now the pitches have dried out a bit we can play a bit more football.

"We are playing for our future and our pride, but our oldest player was 26, so we're a young side and we're looking to next season. This season is a big experience but we've got to bounce back."
