Wigan full-back Kevin Kilbane is keen to secure Premier League safety before Manchester United arrive at the JJB on the last day of the season. The Latics, who only secured their great escape last season by an unlikely victory in the final game at Sheffield United, are inching towards safety but the final points are proving elusive.
This contest with Reading at the weekend was appalling as a spectacle but the point may prove crucial to both sides, especially given results elsewhere.
For Wigan, the last two games are daunting - away against high-scoring Aston Villa before United's visit on the final day of the season.
Kilbane said: "We know what we have to do and we don't want it to go the last game - especially after last year. We want it all settled as early as possible.
"Last season we were losing when we should have been winning but it's different now and there is a momentum about the way we are playing.
"It's been a great turnaround and we have worked so hard to pull ourselves clear of trouble."
