Mon 28 Apr, 05:15 PM

Oldham have hit out at their own supporters after Saturday's final home game of the season against Cheltenham was marred by a pitch invasion.Latics fans ignored pleas to stay off the pitch as they celebrated Lewis Alessandra's late winner in the 2-1 victory.

Referee David Foster included the pitch invasion in his report and the Latics now face a nervous wait to see if they are to be charged by the Football Association.

A statement from the club said: "Club officials are facing a wait to find out if the FA will hit them in the pocket after Saturday's pitch invasion.

"A considerable number of fans trespassed on the pitch following Lewis Alessandra's late goal, despite being urged not to do so.

"The club are very disappointed that some supporters chose this course of action, and a financial penalty could now be levied. Referee Mr Foster has included the incident in his official report, meaning the club must wait to see what action, if any, is taken."
