Parry hoping for cup final chance

Mon 28 Apr, 02:30 PM

Cardiff striker Paul Parry admits he is desperate to make up for his FA Cup semi-final heartache by being fit in time for the final. The Bluebirds forward has been sidelined since injuring a hamstring against West Brom just days before their clash with Barnsley but hopes to return in their final league game of the season against the Tykes this weekend.

"I had to have a chat with Dave Jones and see what I had to do to be in contention for Wembley," he told the Wales on Sunday. "Now I will have a good week of training and try to play as long as I can against Barnsley.

"I've got two weeks after that and, hopefully, come the final, I'll be ready for selection. But, as the manager has told us all, there are no guarantees."

And the former Hereford player admits a winning goal at Wembley would complete the fairytale for him.

"When you are playing on the park as a kid your dream is to score the winner in a FA Cup final," added Parry. "If I could do something like that it would rank higher than anything I have done in my career. You look at Portsmouth now and you could put them on a par with Middlesbrough and look what we did there."
