Aircool man targets Independents' points lead.

Fresh from a podium finish last time out at Rockingham, Adam Jones has his sights set on trying to secure the Independents' points lead as the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Donington Park for the third round of the year.

Despite the late nature of the deal to switch to a SEAT Leon this season, Jones has been one of the stars of the campaign to date having scored points in two of the three race at Brands Hatch in the opening rounds before a hat-trick of top ten finishes at Rockingham.

That was capped by a fine third place in the final race of the weekend in Northamptonshire which, allied to a retirement for Mat Jackson, has seen Jones close to within eleven points of the BMW Dealer Team UK man in the race for the Independents' championship.

Now, at the scene of one of his strongest performances last year, Jones said he was keen to try and close the gap to Jackson still further in the fight for honours.

"From the start I knew that this year's championship would not be easy as the line-up is very strong but I and everyone at Team Air Cool are determined to give it our all," he said. "The tremendous support I have received from Air Cool Engineering and Bodywork (Solihull) along with several other local firms has enabled me to enter the championship in an extremely competitive car which we are developing further between each race and will make us a serious contender for this year's title.

"It must have come as quite a surprise to some of the other contenders to realise the commitment we have as a team and with new sponsors coming on board we intend to push even harder and close the gap on the championship leader."
