Shane Byrne has set his sights on a double of British Superbike championship glory and a wildcard outing when the world championship comes to his home circuit of Brands Hatch.

The Kent rider pulled off a remarkable double World Superbike victory at Brands as a wildcard in 2003, and looking for a repeat on the first weekend in August.

I am really focused on trying to claim the British Superbike Championship, but if Airwaves Ducati do want to enter the world round at Brands Hatch, I would want to compete in the event," he told Kent on Sunday.

"As I say, the British championship is my goal this year and I am fed up with people talking about five years ago. I want people to be talking about me winning the title this year.

Byrne got his season off to a flying start with a win and a second place at Thruxton in the opening round, placing him level on points with Cal Crutchlow, but the veteran said he was disappointed not to claim two race wins.

You know what - I am not that happy with the results to be honest. I know that sounds daft but I was really up for a double win at Thruxton.

"The first race was tough but I managed to get the race win. The red flag in the second race really cost me because I got a great start and went into the lead early on.

"I was just pulling away when the flag came out. From the restart I got a real bad start and it just took me too long to catch up."

The British Superbike championship moves to Oulton Park this weekend. Catch all the action LIVE on British Eurosport 2 from 12.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday!
