Champions League - Marquez out for season

Eurosport - Tue, 28 Apr 22:37:00 2009

Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee in the goalless Champions League semi-final first leg against Chelsea.

Marquez stumbled and went down clutching his left knee just after half-time at the Camp Nou and has damaged the external meniscus.

Coach Pep Guardiola has limited options in central defence for the return leg after Carles Puyol, who came on to replace Mexico international Marquez, was booked for a late tackle on Florent Malouda.

As a result he will miss the match in London on Wednesday May 6 through suspension.

Marquez will also miss Saturday's 'Clasico' when Liga leaders Barca face champions Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

  4. Message No. 12. Barca

The only statistic that counts is this Barcelona 0-O Chelsea. So much for the Camp Nou, and by the dramatics and hysterics of the Barcelona diving brigade I think that "camp" is an appropriate word.

  6. Dear Yahoo, is there a translation service available to enable normal English speaking followers of this site to understand the comments posted? Whilst a little precis for the sake of speed and brevity is fine with me, some of these postings are complete gibberish.
Chelsea are not my favourite team but they showed character and resiliance last night and if Drogba had been able to finish off his goal scoring chance the tie would have been over last night. Now that Barcelona have lost two defenders for the second leg Chelsea should make the final and guarantee yet another English European Champions success.

Carles Busquets is almost good as puyol and marques so it won't be an issue, and by the way with chelsea poor attacking why bother to much about defense. Well let me guess chelsea is looking for a draw at home so we can have penalties ( I don't want to see JT crying like a baby again like last year against MU, poor JT).
