Gareth Barry admits he faces a tough decision over his Aston Villa future this summer.
The England international was the subject of constant speculation last summer after a protracted transfer saga involving Liverpool.
Barry ended up staying at Villa Park after the Reds failed to meet Villa's asking price for the midfielder.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez is reported to be ready to rekindle his interest in Barry this summer and the player insists there will no repeat of last year's saga, though he will take his time before deciding on his long-term future.
"From the experience of last year I'm hoping to deal with it better," Barry told the Birmingham Mail.
"It would be disrespectful to the fans and the club if I'm thinking about anything else rather than trying to get maximum points from the last four games - that's where my head is at this moment.
"It will definitely be a difficult decision, but we'll see where we are at the end of the season before making any decision. It's always going to be a tough one, no matter what happens.
"I've learnt a lot from what happened and last season I learned a lot off the pitch. I'm looking for a completely opposite scale of things and I'm confident it won't be one of those sagas again.
"There are things I'll do differently. I'm not dreading it at all, I know what's coming. It's not something you dread, it's part of the game."

play in the Europan Cup or Sit on the bench in the champions league.....
Garry must be outright silly to consider a move from Villa now, check it out;top four teams have better midfielders than him,so how's he gonna make first team? that leaves Man City(plenty cash and brainless ambitions),Everton?ok,but frugal with cash,Spurs?yeah well, but harry has bigger problems. So that still leaves you with Villa as your best bet 'cos he can grow with them.
3 things Gareth:
1) You don't want to spent a lot of time on the bench at this stage of your career.
2) You are an established England player so you don't need to move for that.
3) MON sees you as a creative player and gives you freedom, Benitez sees you as a holding player, a "water carrier".
Stay put my son!
Let him go - he can't play his best football where he obviously doesn't want te be.
G.BARRY SHOULD GO TO LIVERPOOL!!! HE'LL BE LEADING A GOOD LIFE SITTING ON THE BENCH WITH BIG PAYCHECK WATCHING ALL THE SPANISH PLAYER IN THE 1ST TEAM...
Liverpool -- spend a lot of time sitting on the bench (speak to Robbie Keane)
Arsenal -- you seem to play the same position they are now getting nassri to play?
I honestly think you would be as well to stay at the villa ok it might only be Europa cup but Villa might well have managed to win the thing if O'Neil had not been so fixated about a 4th place finish
See what else Villa buy this summer they need a defence Zat knight and Davis are next to useless IMO
and if Martin Larsen has to retire then you are in the poo defensively.
But as you said you do not wish to retire with regrets which is understandable I think you might regret a move as to much time on the bench would see you England place go and its is the world cup year
Stay at Villa Park
to be honest, Liverpool have a pretty good midfield anyway, if he was to go there he wouldn't play anywhere near as many games. Which after all is what any player wants to do. Also, if he doesn't play as many games, he could put his England selection at risk.
I agree with Barry, its a tough decision, but hopefully he'll see that Villa are going places and he can help us get there. We need to build the squad with players of his calibre, not loose them....
dazmanutd, another braindead moron Coming onto a blog about Villa and LFC to spread his blinkered brainwashed Man U @#$% get a life oh and check the history books idiot!!!! ManU 36 trophies LFC 43 i make that 7 trophies short hows your maths?
he should stay at villa, they need him more than liverpool, who arent givin up their midfield lightly
xabi is on his way out..
liverpool dont need him, gerrard, mascherano, alonso in the middle, seriously... a bench warmer maybe. . .
..Ok serious, come to Arsenal
Could use him at the Emirates....cutting grass
what position is he going to play in anifield?benitez just wants to unsettle the player and he must be follish enough to listen the the media too.
go to steffnu . mybrute . ocm
and play ;) (no popups or anything else)
Would rather the pool buy Eto'o got enough midfielders
Just go Gareth........so we can settle the squad and move on..........one thing is for sure, it will be the biggest mistake of your life........look what has happened to the two times european player of the year Shevchenko, seven years of consistancy, then on and off the bench you go..... next thing its all over.......Alonso, Gerrard, Mascherano, Benyeyoun etc....are by far better players all round. Chelsea would be a better move.....if they wanted you that is.
Once I saw him just enjoyed hot dating with a sexy rich female on ""M i l l i 0 n a i r e l 0 v e s. c0 o00 m" "
come to anfield and win no trophies ha ha ha
