Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has admitted he will have to sell players to help raise funds for the Reds' summer transfer targets.
Benitez will look to strengthen his squad in close season to keep pace with Manchester United and Chelsea and make another push for the Premier League title next term.
The Reds have been linked with a second attempt to sign Aston Villa's Gareth Barry, as well as Valencia striker David Villa and Portsmouth right-back Glen Johnson, but in order to bring in that calibre of player he will have to trim his squad.
Ryan Babel and Andrea Dossena have been unconvincing and could be sacrificed, and Sami Hyypia is reported to have been offered a deal to join the coaching staff.
"More or less I will have an idea of how much we will have to spend," said Benitez.
"I think we'd have to sell players to increase the money we'll need, but at the moment we're not talking about names and money.
"We are working on targets and we will try to do things as quickly and cheaply as possible.
"Every year it is important to sign good players, the right players. We know we have better players than before and it will be difficult to find better players than we have now.
"But we are working very hard during the season, looking for and watching players. We will be ready."

Probably he will need to buy all Spanish players as they are the only ones who can understand the menu set out by the Spanish Waiter.
One hopes he includes himsel in the CLEAR OUT, he cost Liverpool dear this season. First class idiot who will, in the next year or so go home with a big fat redundancy cheque

That is now a list of 14 players that may of had some impact on the pitch. However, overall taking into account training, opportunities and appearances they have not lived up to billing. And, because they have not delivered often enough, there is still to much pressure on Gerrard, Torres and Kuyt. Look how many games we have drawn.
Forgot to add three other players to that list Babel, Pennant and Voronin.
Come back Keane, Crouch and Fowler all is forgiven
Mysteron (comment 23) I don't agree with. You're right about Dossena and Lucas, but the others haven't been given the chance to impress. Degen's been injured all season, whereas El Zhar and N'Gog are still learning. As for Plessis, Itandje and Cavalieri...when have you seen them play this season? How can you comment on players' ability when you haven't seen them play over a whole season? Also...as far as Aurelio, Riera and Benayoun go, they are all brilliant players who deserve more respect from the likes of people like you. Aurelio may not be the best in defence (I think Rafa should put him in midfield), but he's great at set peices and can attack. Riera is a great winger and has given Liverpool much more space on the field...he really stretches the opposition's defence. And lastly Benayoun...well what can I say...probably the most underrated player in the team. A scorer of important goals (Real Madrid, Fulham, Arsenal) and a handful for any defender. So Mysteron, have a serious think about players next time you fancy criticising one.
All of these have not delivered. Degen, Dossena, Lucas, Plessis, El Zhar, N'Gog, Itandje, Cavalieri and I believe there is better players than Aurelio, Riera, Benayoun.
However, thats too many changes in one go.
