Onslow-Cole chasing 'birthday' podium.

Mon 28 May, 11:23 AM

Having recently celebrated his 20th birthday, Tom Onslow-Cole will be looking to give himself a late birthday present as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Croft for the fourth round of the year.

Like team-mate Colin Turkington, the Team RAC driver struggled at Thruxton on the special Dunlop control tyre, but the rookie will now hope to return to the form he displayed at Rockingham - where he snared his first BTCC podium - on the annual trip to the North East.

"As soon as I left Thruxton my full attention was directed to Croft," he said. "I've been able to fit in a lot of training during this fairly big gap and the recent nice weather has given me the opportunity to get out of the gym and onto my mountain bike which I've really enjoyed.

"A win would be an amazing birthday present and I certainly think it's possible. However, I'll not compromise good points to get it. If I can come away with three top five finishes and a podium I will be more than happy."

Onslow-Cole has run well at Croft in the past, having taken a double win last year en-route to the Clio Cup title, and he said he was confident that the BMW will be back on form this coming weekend.

"I am very fond of Croft, it's a flowing circuit which suits my driving style," he said. "I won both races there last year in the Clio Cup so that obviously boosts my confidence. I think we will be a lot stronger here than at Thruxton where we were definitely thrown a curve ball with the harder tyre compound.

"I'm going into this round feeling very confident and have set my sights on a debut race win for Team RAC."
