New Paris Saint-Germain president Charles Villeneuve has given his backing to coach Paul Le Guen to stay on at the capital club.Media reports suggested Le Guen would be leaving his post following the resignation of former president Alain Cayzac in April, with Luis Fernandez tipped for a return.
Stand-in president Simon Tahar backed Le Guen to stay after the 44-year-old saved the club from relegation on the final day of the season.
Now Tahar's long-term successor Villeneuve has also given his support to Le Guen and promised to build a strong team with the coach.
"I want to reinforce this team together with Paul Le Guen, who is continuing in his role of coach," he told the club's official website.
"Furthermore Paul Le Guen has himself set a certain number of objectives that I have ratified.
"There will be some heavyweight reinforcements and some truly big names in football."
Villeneuve, who takes up the post having previously been the director of sports at French TV station TF1, asked the club's supporters to also give their backing to Le Guen.
"Everyone needs to help us and to avoid always being angry against the president and the coach," he continued.
"I want to say (to the fans) have confidence in the people already in place."
The 66-year-old writer and journalist also announced his plans to take the club back to the top of French football in three years.
"My main aim is to take this club back to being a top-notch team," Villeneuve added.
"In the next three or four seasons we will have to be, at worst, the third-best side in Ligue 1."
