Bristol Rovers remain hopeful that Rickie Lambert will agree a new contract with the club as negotiations with the player continue.Last season's 19-goal top scorer has 12 months remaining on the three-year deal he signed when he moved to the Memorial Stadium from Rochdale in June 2006.

Rovers director of football Lennie Lawrence told the Western Daily Press: "Negotiations with Rickie are still on-going.

"He has got another year to go on his current deal so it is not as though he is out of contract. But we would like to extend it. Whether we will be able to do that, time will tell."
