Seagulls set up Hawkins swoop

Wed 28 May, 03:45 PM

Brighton are set to sign defender Colin Hawkins on a two-year deal following the defender's release by Coventry at the end of the season. The 30-year-old will become Albion boss Micky Adams' first signing since taking charge at the south coast club earlier this month.

Adams, who also signed Hawkins during his time as Coventry manager, told the club's official website: "He is a no-nonsense defender, an experienced centre-half and a strong character who will be a good influence in the dressing room.

"Colin has played in the Championship. He was very unlucky at Coventry with injury, just as he was establishing himself as a regular in the side.

"He is a very welcome addition to the squad and I am very pleased we have got him."

Hawkins made just 14 appearances for Coventry in little under two years at the club. He suffered a ruptured Achilles early last season and finished the campaign on loan at Chesterfield.
