Kevin Blackwell is to stay on as Sheffield United manager despite the club's Championship play-off final defeat.
Blackwell considered his future after the 1-0 Wembley loss to Burnley, but after talks with chairman Kevin McCabe the former Luton and Leeds manager will be in charge next season.
"The club, player and the fans all took a blow after the Burnley game. We had been there before and we did not want to see another defeat," said McCabe. "Kevin is no different. He has taken this club forward on the playing side from a difficult position in the league the season before last to the edge of the play-offs.
"This season we have finished third in the league and narrowly missed out on automatic promotion.
"Defeat in the play-offs is cruel. People hurt from the experience. I suffered. But I want all Blades to know that the fight goes on and, like me, Kevin is up for the challenge.
"We have had frank and open discussions. Kevin is motivated and, like all at Bramall Lane, is up for the task of getting the Blades promoted next season."

blackwell complete rubbish just like warnock
Saalemnok, your an idiot if you don't think he want's to be at the club, his comment's were of the cuff when he was devastated after the game,he has also suffered the same with weed's and got the sack so he must have thought the same was going to happen again, but he didn't count on our fantastic chairman who does not believe in chopping and changing every 5 minute's, you only have to look back at how long it took him to get rid of robson. And were did it get's weed's ??? nowere they are still in division one. Have a few week's break although it won't be much for him as we need to look /sign a few player's come back steady the ship and start again.UTB
TYKE THROUGH AND THROUGH, why post silly little comments if your not a Blade's fan? so annoying! The referee turned down 3 valid penalties on Monday, so yes we have a right to have moan about the referee!
Anyway, back on the subject, I'm glad Kevin is staying, he's a Blade through and through and the man to take us up next season. As Wenday says, let's all get behind him and give the support he needs.
Time to sack him now then. As he showed no comitment to the club when he wanted to leave straight after a match. It was a time he should have been supporting his players and even failed to do that. What will happen if he loses the first 3 games next season, when you have a man who clearly doesn't want to be at the club.
Netzer,i was there on monday and i spoke to several burnley fan's before and after the match and from the bottom of my heart i really do wish them well in the top flight, they were the better team on monday there is no getting away from that fact the goal was great.United have had load's of grief over the last few year's with the "tevez affair /saga "but we applaud team's that do the talking on the pitch with legal player's.And i will cheer on the claret and blue team that was at wembley on monday when they play the cheating /lieing claret and blue side next season.
The very best of luck.
I am a Londoner married to a Burnley lass and have been living just outside Burnley for some 10 years now. My little lad is a huge claret fan and I was as happy as punch at Wembley with him on Monday when Burnley went up.
But I must say the Sheffield Utd fans we met on the services on the M1 on the way back up north were superb. They were gracious in defeat and I wish them all the very best in the years ahead. I am sure it is only a matter of time before Sheffield Utd return to the Premiership and I really do hope they make it up next year.
Good luck to the Blades.
From a Barnet supporter.
Ok the Blades lost and again the ref played his part in our downfall the defense and midfield ok but we need a good centre forward better look next year

Well done Kevin,i know it hurt's like hell right now but if you jump ship player's will follow by staying we have at least a chance of keeping them. The blade's we bounce back and we will be there next season as alway's supporting them.
COME ON YOU RED AND WHITE WIZARD'S.
WERE ALL BLADE'S AREN'T WE.
