Premier League - Babel 'not done' at Liverpool

Eurosport - Thu, 28 May 12:06:00 2009

Ryan Babel will not leave Liverpool this summer, according to his agent.

FOOTBALL Champions League PSV Liverpool Babel Salcido - 0

The Dutch winger found first-team chances limited throughout the season and has been tipped to leave Anfield.

But his representative, Winnie Haatrecht, insists that is not the case and he hopes to hold talks soon with Reds manager Rafael Benitez.

"He is not done here yet," Haatrecht told AD Sportwereld.

"I will sit down soon with Mr Benitez to evaluate the season. We haven't found time to do that yet.

"Ryan went from Ajax to Liverpool to win trophies. So far that hasn't happened. Ryan wants to leave Liverpool as a regular starter with a trophy in his pocket."

Since arriving from Ajax for £11.5 million, Babel has scored just seven Premier League goals in 57 appearances, although the majority of those have been from the bench.

  1. Babel must go, his chances this season weren't many but he had some and never took them. If you don't take your chances you don't keep getting chances. The best way he can help Liverpool would be to leave and hopefully bring back most of that 11.5mil. Thanks for nothing Ryan.

  2. Give Babel a chance and play him regularly up until January, if he hasnt performed by then, get rid.

  3. babel talented my backside. he`s just like harry kewell. he`s lazy and the sooner he`s gone the better. he doesn`t tackle, close people down, and if he loses the ball he then gives up. (unlike benayoun, kuyt, and any other midfielder.
he dosen`t want to go because he will have to take a pay cut. he can take dossena, and lucas with him.
lucas shows heart but he`s just not good enough for liverpool.

harry4man, well beniotez has signed 85 players and spends millions on over 10 players a season so you can hardly turn round and say chelsea and man u spend blah blah blah. Even though benitez does this all he moans about is how much more money he needs and how he needs all these world class players. You liverpool fans are the same. its arrogance at the highest level. he should have been able to build a squad over the 5 seasons and should be looking at couple changes each year. he's done terrible in his signings and during games with his subs and during league with his starting lineups. that makes a bad manager.

Yes he cant just bring in young players bacause they are young but he doesnt seem to be doing anything right in my opinion. He's very lucky to be in a job. and we all know it is becase he won a game on penalties he shouldnt have.

as for babel, I feel a bit sorry for him. He doesnt really get a chance and when he does I dont htink Benitez knows where to play him. Again benitez is at fault as he needs to decide what position and formation he's best for and play him accordingly. its a bit like the kalou situation at chelsea but at least kalou does it for his country.

  10. Babel does well in two games.
Last year in the champions league when he scored against Arsenal.
And also this year against Manchster united.
That was a excellent day fro me and other fans to see the champions lose against a liverpool side who others say is a two man side.Well those two men were sitting on the bench and we still beat them.
Shows we can still win a match without Torres and Gerrard

"He has spent so much money on his house in Liverpool that the last thing he wants to do is move .I am sure he would rather just stay and take our money than have to relocate and have another house gutted and rennovated from top to bottom .I am sure it has little to do with his "love" of Liverpool FC"

surprised his house hasn't been robbed yet ? or has it ?

  13. number 4. thats @#$% lol, rafa hasnt had a chance to do it yet, you need talent to come through and hes not in control of that, he was at the youth cup final the ohter day looking to see what is available. next season we will have, spearing, kelly, darby and hammill available which is one of the first seasons since gerrard that local players can be introduced. ITs not rafa's fault, the biggest spenders are united and chelsea who i cant think of any players they havent bought, scholes maybe?

  14. name one Chelsea Player.Name one barca player. I am afaraid you can't just bring Youth into the very very top of the game where a single loss in a season means it could be over for the team.To win the prem or Champions League takes the best players on Earth not 18 year olds just finding their feet. There are of course exceptions to this but they are the Roonies etc of the world ..not academy players
