Premier League - Roque wants to stay with Rovers 'family'

Eurosport - Thu, 28 May 14:02:00 2009

Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz denied wanting to leave Blackburn Rovers and said his reported comments had got lost in translation.

"Blackburn is like a family to me and I've always tried to give my best for the club," he said.

"I've got a lot of friends there and there's a good atmosphere for me to continue."

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce said earlier this month that Santa Cruz had been giving interviews to Paraguayan media in which he expressed a wish to play for a bigger club.

But the former Bayern Munich striker said he had spoken to the coach and explained the situation.

"There's been a lot of confusion with regard to what I've said to the media here," he said.

Santa Cruz, who has been out of action since February with a knee injury, admitted he was doubtful for next month's World Cup qualifiers at home to Chile and away to Brazil.

"I'm more out than in because I haven't worked with the ball or with the team," he said. "I think the first week (of training) will be fundamental."

Paraguay, attempting to qualify for their fourth successive World Cup, lead the 10-team South American group with six matches to play.

  1. Blackburn is a good club they have a little bit of history and have had some great players playing there over the years. But for a Spurs fan to talk about what type of club there are...lol look at your own. Loads of money good following more than a few good players but your @#$%, your biggest scalp this year was 4-4 with arsenal and you thought you lot won the league (league yeah right) joke outfit run my muppets supported by muppets.

  10. 'I want to stay at Blackburn' got lost in translation and became 'I want to play for a bigger club who can win things in Europe'?! Yeh right!
