West Brom have claimed they have received no approach from Celtic regarding the vacant manager's job at Parkhead.
Mowbray has been installed as favourite with some bookmakers to replace Gordon Strachan as boss of the SPL runners-up.
West Brom - who will start the 2009-10 season in the Championship following their recent relegation from the Premier League - issued a statement on Thursday claiming Mowbray is still their man. "We have not received an approach from Celtic for Tony Mowbray - nor would we welcome one," it read.
"We have already made our position very clear on this situation and it has not changed.
"Tony is under contract for the next two years and we fully expect him to remain as our manager."
The former Bhoys player and ex-Hibernian boss has two years remaining of his current contract at The Hawthorns.
And, if a move back to Parkhead does materialise, it will cost Celtic considerably more in compensation than the £500,000 figure mentioned in reports.

Nice to see all the vermin have managed back on these pages after being absent on Sunday and Monday, I have pondered over and over about this why have they all disappeared as if by magic? I thought maybe someone had blocked their drain pipes or has some other event driven them back under their rocks? Pity they still spout absolute @#$% when they do manage to surface. Some I see even met 'the right minded manager' on their travels, or should that be in their dreams. The biscuit tin mentality has returned also, as Reid may need to pay back his ill gained expenses, and so has the league championship returned - to it's rightful home. Chesney has done a runner again, well nothing to unexpected in that, when the going gets tough he bails out, thinking about it he does not even wait for the going to do anything! Oh happy days are here again! If only you guys had listened to what dear old Paul G has been telling you all - IT WILL NEVER BE 4 IN A ROW!
