Waggott confident in financial future

Thu 28 May, 03:40 PM

Charlton chief executive Steve Waggott is confident the club are in a good position to cope with the reduced income relegation to League One will bring.

The Addicks recently made 14 members of staff redundant as they attempt to cut costs and are looking into ways of bringing in outside revenue.

"We've gone through a torrid couple of months where every area of the business has been interrogated to get the budget aligned to a vast reduction in income," Waggott told the club's official website.

Charlton will also be looking for a new shirt sponsor if, as expected, JD Sports opt not to renew their deal.

"The likelihood of JD renewing is remote, so we will have to widen the net as we look to attract a new shirt sponsor," added Waggott.

  1. Well said Graham - the way things are at present at SE7 don't be surprised to see us drop further. Martyn, why don't you stop banging on about Palace, who cares about Palace? It was exactly that attitude by our board that got us into this trouble in the first place as they sought to consolidate what they thought was our status as an 'established Premier side' by stealing Dowie from Selhurst. Good to see he worked his magic at Newcastle too.

  2. good job Mr.Waggott's confident in CAFC's future, I wish he would relay the confidence into us loyal fans who have been told absolutely nothing into the future plans. No info. on players retained or released or the proposed takeover by our former Chief Executive & a consortium but most of all no news on who will be managing our team in the fight for promotion back to the Championship. Maybe no news is good news, let us all hope and pray this to be the case.
