Former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke heads the list of seven players released by Sunderland today.
The 37-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international, who is out of contract at the Stadium of Light, was, as expected, not included when the club released its retained list on Thursday.
Striker David Connolly, midfielder Arnau Riera, keepers Darren Ward and Nick Colgan and young defenders Peter Hartley and Niall McArdle have also been released.

Personally I hope we shift some more of the "squad players" and trim the wage bill further, I mean we could invest in 2-3 quality players that would provide better value with regards to the first teams performance. We have the biggest squad in British football at the moment and had to rely on our neighbor's up and down the road being even worse than we were too stay up, because our first teams under achievements.
Now I know this predicament is the legacy of our former manager(who incidentally I've heard as got a job on a farm doooown Sorrffffolk, riding on a tractor tending an acre of grazing meadow) but their really needs to be more(We must have a budget with limits).
The club is King.
Should have flogged them to Roy Keane
Yorke's glorious career coming to end. should retire now
