Premier League - Cole wants Liverpool return

Mon, 28 May 21:08:00 2012

Joe Cole would love to have a second crack at Liverpool after an impressive season on loan with French club Lille.

Joe Cole Rennes Lille - 0

The 30-year-old midfielder endured a poor campaign with the Reds after joining on a free transfer from Chelsea in July 2010.

He resurrected his career in 2011-12 by helping LOSC finish third in Ligue 1, scoring nine goals in 42 appearances for Rudi Garcia's side, but admits the "fire still burns" to prove himself on Merseyside.

"I would love the chance - if they wanted to - to put it right," he told Sky Sports News.

"I don't want that on my career. I've been a success at West Ham, a success at Chelsea, and come to another country in France and had a good season.

"It's just that season at Liverpool. It's in their hands. I'm easy whatever way but the fire still burns with me and I would love to have the chance put it right if that's what they wanted."

And Cole believes the dismissal of manager Kenny Dalglish earlier this month may open the door for a return to Anfield.

"Kenny was a good guy - he didn't lie to me. I wasn't in his plans," the player added.

"It [Dalglish's departure] just changes my future. Whereas it was quite clear before Kenny got the sack that I wouldn't be going back there, who knows what will happen now? I'm just waiting on some kind of information."

  1. I think in the context of who are new manager is then that is clear intent by our new owners that they want things on the cheap. The brutal truth now is that a lot of money has already been paid to both Cole and especially Aquilani and Liverpool would probably have to give them a golden handshake so they'll agree to move to Reading or Roma on the pay cut that these lads are going to have to agree to in order to move on. So since they've had their money anyway and no more extravagant 20 to 35 million marquee signing are going to happen this next transfer window; Rodgers might as well have them back and officially competing for a place in the squad.

  2. Cole should return. We need firepower and he can push the others with his speed! What gameplan was Dalglish refering to:an idiot who played a whole season without a plan? The players spent time running all over the field but giving no results in return. Is that what he calls a gameplan?

  3. he would be bad as usual in Liverpool! get rid of him!

  4. LFC seem to have forgotten about the players we have loaned out... Cole admittedly had a poor season but in the right set up will be good as a rotational player (rotate Henderson off to teach him to work harder), Alberto (Aquilani) is pure class... and hopefully with a more attacking minded manager he will be called back into the side. Lucas hopefully will be on form when he returns too..... as for our current midfield. Henderson can have moments of skill but is too lazy and makes too many mistakes so needs to be dropped, Adam is errm shocking and maybe looked better in Blackpool's outfit but afraid unless his dead ball skills improve then he should be put up for sale, Downing....err,,, jury still out but don't think he suits the side. Maxi should get more match time for sure..10 starts, 4 goals... Henderson 31 Starts, 2 goals (and misplaced passes)

  8. Perhaps Joe Cole may want to consider linking up with Glen Johnson as they're both ex-West ham youth players and both ex-Chelsea players, to help and offer support if he's serious about resurrecting his career at Liverpool. - he's got a couple of years in th Premiership left in him and could give a good account of himself if he went for it big-time...

  9. For anyone who does not watch French football, Joe has been absolutely awesome this season, full of energy and chipped in with loads of assists too. Liverpool need to get him back and take him on pre season to have a look.

  15. We need a massive clear out this summer of our midfielders.....sell Adam (dead ball specialist my a**e-missed 2 penalties and hit row z more often than the back of the net), Downing (sorry but a flash of brilliance every 5-6 games isn't enough), and Spearing (has heart but cannot pass 5 yards) that should raise about 16mill, bring back Cole and Aquaman then bring in Hoilett who will be available for a nominal fee and Boudabouz from Sochaux (cost approx 15mill), then any seasonal funds bring in a striker like Higuain or Soldado...defensively we're fine......If we also get Van Gaal as manager, things will certainly be looking up.

  20. I was an admirer of Joe Cole when he was at West Ham and in his early days at Chelsea but when he came to Liverpool he was always blowing for tugs after only ten minutes! He has lost a yard or two of pace and looks too top heavy. He is way past his best and there wil never be a place for him at Liverpool again. Dream on Joe.
