Brentford manager Andy Scott admits he had been closely tracking new recruit Adam Newton for the past six months while at Peterborough. The defender signed for the Bees on a one-year deal after his contract at Peterborough was cancelled by mutual consent.
Newton spent six years at London Road but after the signing of right-back from Russell Martin from Wycombe last month found himself surplus to requirements.
Scott told Brentford's official website: "Adam is a player that I've been tracking since January. He has played at the highest level with West Ham and has a good pedigree having also played for England Under 21's.
"He has been consistent throughout his six years at Peterborough, playing over 200 games, and is equally comfortable at either right-back or on the right side of midfield.
"He's athletic, and is a very good signing for the club."
