MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (AFP) - Angela Park has a one-shot lead over a trio that includes South Korea's Inbee Park after completion of the second round of the weather-hit US Women's Open on Saturday morning.
The Brazilian used a hot putter to post a six under 67 and surge ahead of Sweden's Helen Alfredsson, Finn Minea Blomqvist and Inbee Park at the LPGA major championship.
"Every putt I hit out there was flawless and I read the greens really well," she said after moving to six-under 140 total.
A total of 36 players completed the second round Saturday morning after play was called off on Friday because of bad weather and then darkness.
Park, who tied for second at last year's Open, has not had a great season - 43rd on the LPGA Tour money list - but something about the US Open brings out the best in her.
"Having a good finish last year gives me that reminder that I can do well," the 19-year-old said.
Meanwhile, Annika Sorenstam played her way within five shots of the lead thanks to a round of 70 that could have been better had she not missed a four-foot birdie chance at the last hole.
World No. 1 Lorena Ochoa is seven shots behind after a 74.
