Platini Endorses Ronaldo Pursuit

Sat 28 Jun, 01:09 PM

Manchester United's hopes of fending off Real Madrid's interest in Cristiano Ronaldo have been dealt a further blow after UEFA president Michel Platini said the Spanish side's actions were "normal".

United have already had an official complaint against Real rejected by FIFA and now Platini has said the Madrid club's public wooing of the Portuguese players is part and parcel of the game.

Platini told a news conference in Vienna: "Every club in the world would like to have Ronaldo.

"It's part of the system we have today. Players move from club to club and I can understand why Real Madrid want him.

"They had di Stefano and Puskas in the past, and as Ronaldo is considered one of the best or the best player in the world it's normal.

"If the club has the finances they can do it, if they don't have the money they can't."

Ronaldo's team-mate Rio Ferdinand, meanwhile, expects the winger to report for pre-season training with United - but is in the dark over his long-term plans.

The Portugal winger was the star of United's Premier League and Champions League-winning campaign last season and defender Ferdinand does not want him to leave.

The England international told Sky Sports News: "We'd love him to be with us next season. Whatever happens is going to happen.

"We're like the fans, we pick up the papers and read what is going on. We know as much as anyone else.

"We will be going to pre-season and I am sure Ronaldo will be there and we will be going with the aim of working hard together and starting off a good new season."

  1. COME ON PLATIN WE ALL KNOW THAT YOU SUPPORT SPANISH FOOTBALL, WE EXPECTED THIS FROM YOU .

  2. As a player, Platini counts among the greatest to ever grace the pitch. As an administrator, he is a myopic buffoon who's blinded by his anti-English attitude. Coming from a country that relies on colonised players to get it anywhere, his blatant hatred of the English game is understandable. I mean, if your country can produce a team that can be champions six-seven times in a row, yet not know what the semi-finals of the Champions League feels like must be hard to take. If you are as self-serving a nincompoop as Platini, you will try to take down your nemesis at all costs. By supporting the classless behaviour of Madrid, especially given the team's stature can only serve to undermine not the English game but the game as a whole. A contract is a legally binding document, if you do not want to commit to a club then do not sign a contract extension. Personnally, I'm a great CR fan but, he has disrepected the team that moulded him into the class player he is and will mould him into a better player if he stays. I wish SAF can bench him for the duration of his contract, then let him watch while the Old Trafford trophy cabinet gets more obese. There is nothing wrong with Madrid being interested in CR, it is the very ungentlemanly manner they have conducted themselves that makes everything wrong. For that, Man Utd should let them have him only when his contract expires. As for the loser Platini, he should try to solve football's many problems and stop letting jealousy get the better of him. The EPl is on a one-way ticket to the top of Europe's leagues, so the sooner the French idiot makes peace with that the better for him.

  4. Let him gooooooo, l`m feed up of hearing anything as relate to the man ronaldo, l have never see ronaldo`s game in a giant game that he distinguish himself as what people call him, but instead plays good when playing against small premiere league teams like fulham, derby, Birmingham, sunderland etc, but never again chelsea or any top team in the european leagues..... give us a break over this man and stop playing earthy politics

  5. To RDFX007 and all the english gays!!! I'm Irish and proud of it. You're bunch of cowards good for talking only. You said you're protecting freedom my @#$%. All the problems in this world is your creation. You're the world champs in changing history. Your policy of dividing nad rule is turning against u. The best players in the premiership are non english! Most of The players in your national team come from different backgrounds. Rooney is Irish, Owen is welsh,..ect So Whatever u wanna say say it. By the way I'm a Man utd fan I wanna say sell ronaldo its the right time to get some quality players type barbatov, huntlaar, ribery,..ect

  6. As a Man U fan, I think if Ronaldo wants to go, just let him go. Man U has too many other talented players like Nani, Anderson etc. He's already help Man U won every cup in England. Even Champions League, just let him go pursuit his dream to play for Real. Use the money for selling him to buy new players especially new striker which is Man U lack last season.

  7. Adam L, it's all very well slagging off the English;- we leave ourselves open to it quite a lot. However, saying we know nothing about football is misguided, if not just plain ignorant. The sport you claim to love so much was codified into the game we know today by us English. The Premier League is such a success globally, that all the other major leagues around the world are attempting to follow it's model for success. Like most things in popular culture these days, from music to fashion to football, where we lead, others follow. Not bad for a country with no taste or style. Oh, and we are at the forefront of the fight to protect freedom and democracy around the world, unlike some of our so called european 'cousins'. Now, where did you say you came from again? Oh, you didn't. Not brave enough?

  9. Adam L you are a complete and utter @#$% who rants and speaks complete @#$% in the process !! firstly as for platini being a great player u are correct but he is a narrow minded ignorant short sighted frenchman who refuses to look at the fault and problems with football as a whole eg french national team being made up with loads of africans , spanish being the most racist in europe , germany havein mostly polish players and a striker called Gomez !! . It would be intresting to know what country your from maybe your french which would explain why u love that idiot so much and hate the English or maybe your one of those irish that hate England but refuse to acknowledge you live on hand outs from the eu , but wherever your from your a @#$% that speaks @#$% , go and study your history , learn a bit then maybe you can comment on politics wich you obviously know nothing about you gormless @#$%

  17. Does being uefa president automatically give you the right to be a general plum? Platini seems to always put his foot in where it is not wanted, especially towards british clubs.

From Nicholas G, on Sat 28 Jun 11:39PM
  18. Ronaldo in my opinion can do whaever he likes. He´s achieved the ultimate goal of wining the Champions League. Now it´s time to move on and prove he can do with a different club where he can feel wanted loved and like at home. Please give him a break you selfish Man United bastardz. What more d'you want. He´s brought you out glory winning the Premier League and the European Champions, now let him go happy. You English are double standards in all sports. Remember Ronaldo's wink and how you treated him afterwards. The boy has done more than expected and redeemed himself beyond doubt and you instead unappreciative and greedy can't live without him. Go and suck somebody else blood you lotta english thugs. Man United fans get over this and don't be so full of @#$%. Life goes on.

  19. I think it is pretty clear that Platini's comments towards anything British related cannot be taken seriously. I think he has made it quite clear he has some hatred towards Britain, therefore everything he says is biased towards the other side. Shame really as he is meant to be the Head of European Football representing European countries.
